Perrin Aybara seeks to free his wife, Faile, a captive of the Shaido, but his only hope may be an alliance with the enemy. At Tar Valon, Egwene al'Vere, the young Amyrlin of the rebel Aes Sedai, lays siege to the heart of Aes Sedai power, but she must win quickly. In Andor, Elayne Trakland fights for the Lion Throne that is hers by right, but enemies and Darkfriends plot her destruction. • bioText: Robert Jordan (1948-2007) wrote one of the most beloved and bestselling series in the history of fantasy, The Wheel of Time, which sold over 14 million copies in North America and many more abroad. He taught himself to read when he was four and was tackling Mark Twain and Jules Verne by five. After graduating from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, with a degree in physics, he served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star with "V," and two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry. Jordan died from complications of a rare blood disease. He passed away in his birthplace of Charleston, South Carolina, where he lived with his wife, Harriet.

Kate Reading is the recipient of three AudioFile Earphones Awards, and has narrated everything from Patricia Cornwell to George Eliot. Her favorite BOT recordings include Like Water for ChocolateMiddlemarch, and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Times series, which she narrated with her husband, Michael Kramer.

Michael Kramer is an actor, director, and narrator. He has recorded more than 100 audiobooks, as well as titles for the Library of Congress Talking Books program. Among the recognition he has garnered for his narration are AudioFile magazine’s Earphones Award and the Torgi Award. Mr. Kramer lives in Washington, DC, where he is active in the area’s theater scene, and has appeared in productions at the Shakespeare Theatre, the Kennedy Center, and Theater J.

      • content: With 10 installments under his belt and no sign of letting up, many feel that Jordan's saga, The Wheel of Time, has been spinning long enough. This reading of the latest chapter might be a good choice for those who both agree and disagree. For those still enjoying the series, the solid performances by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer add a new dimension to the story, especially in the way these veteran narrators breathe life into the inner thoughts of the many major players. For those who feel the series is getting old but still want to see things to the end, Reading and Kramer provide an entertaining way to absorb the latest proceedings. J.P.M.
