      • content: When Sadako, a high-spirited and athletic Japanese girl, learns that she has "the atom bomb sickness," leukemia, she decides to fold one thousand paper cranes as a good luck charm to restore her health. This famous story of one girl's courageous fight with a terminal illness makes a fine transition to audio. This story is told in simple, straightforward prose, and Christina Moore gives an appropriately subdued reading, never getting in the way of the words. The production is deeply moving, and the addition of the author's note and letters written to the author about Sadako's story add to the experience. This is an important story and an excellent choice for family listening. A.F. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine
