        October 1, 2009
Grades 6-8 Opening with a discussion of the scientific method and science fairs as well as a list of science experiment safety rules, this volume from the Ace Your Science Project series introduces ideas in astronomy and suggests activities that demonstrate those ideas. Each of the chapters opens with a general discussion of its topic, such as The Sun or Humans in Space, followed by a series of activities that include lists of materials, clearly drawn illustrations, and instructions in paragraph form. Activities that could be used for science fair projects are so marked in the text and in the table of contents. Other projects could be useful for planning classroom demonstrations or for understanding the concepts presented here. Several activities involve making scientific instruments (astrolabe, spectroscope) or models (solar eclipse, lunar eclipse). Informative, practical, and not without dry wit, this is a good bet for replacing older books of science projects related to astronomy.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
