An ancient Carpathian, Sandu Berdardi has given up hope of finding his lifemate and is contemplating meeting the dawn when a gentle telepathic voice slides into his mind. He homes in on the voice and finds Adalasia, a tarot card reader whose family has prepared generation after generation to fight demons and guard a gate. Adalasia isn't surprised by what Sandu is, since her family has shared stories of a supernatural being who would appear and fight alongside his mate to vanquish the demons. As the two journey to discover the secrets of her cards and their connection to Sandu's missing memories of his family, they visit other Carpathians scattered around the world: Dax and Riley, Gabriel and Francesca, Dominic and Solange, and more.
